The TWU soccer team has been picked to finish fifth in the Lone Star Conference preseaon poll, and Pioneers Lindsey Sisco and Sara Deeb have earned preseason league honors.

TWU, which will be under new head coach Babak Abouzar, wound up fifth in a poll of league head coaches, sports information directors and media representatives.

West Texas A&M, the defending LSC regular-season and tournament champion, topped the poll with 10 of 16 first-place votes for 84 total points. Midwestern State was second with three first-place votes and 75 points, and Angelo State was third with 71 points and one first-place vote. Texas A&M-Commerce and TWU each had one first-place vote and finished with 42 and 41 points, respectively.

Sisco, a junior, has been named preseason goalkeeper of the year. She started 17 games for TWU in 2012 at goalie and posted a 1.46 goals-against average and a .713 save percentage. She posted four shutouts in her 17 starts.

Deeb shared preseason defensive player of the year honors with Angelo State’s Caitlyn Conaway. Deeb started all 19 games as a freshmen in 2012 and earned second-team All-LSC honors.

TWU opens the season Sept. 6 in Austin against Texas A&M International.
