LAWTON, Okla. — TWU split a doubleheader at Cameron on Friday. The No. 25 Pioneers captured a 7-1 win before falling 6-4 in the nightcap.

Senior Brandie Lander tossed seven strong innings in the opener to pick up her 22nd win of the year. She held the Aggies hitless through four innings before allowing a two-out hit in the fifth. Lander finished with six strikeouts.

After four scoreless innings, the Pioneers batted around in the fifth and scored four runs. TWU added three runs in the seventh on an RBI double by Alyssa Galaz and a two-run home run by Katie Hines.

Cameron scored in the seventh with a two-out double followed by a single.

In the second game, the Aggies jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first on back-to-back home runs.

TWU cut its deficit in half with a two-run triple by Bailey Vrazel in the second. Cameron pushed its lead to 5-2 in the third before the Pioneers scored two in the fifth. Galaz singled up the middle to drive home both runs.

The Aggies added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth. TWU had the tying run at the plate in the seventh with one out, but a flyout and popup ended the game.

Hines started in the circle and struck out five batters in the loss.

“Brandie pitched great in the first game,” TWU coach Genny Stidham said. “Our bats came alive in the fifth and we were able to give her some run support.

“Katie made a couple of mistakes in the first inning of game two and gave up the home runs. After that she pitched well, and we had a chance to tie the game at the end but couldn’t get the key hit.”

The Pioneers (32-16, 17-10 Lone Star) will close out the regular season with a single game at Cameron at noon today.
