TWU took Set 1 from West Texas A&M but was unable to provide the same effective offense for the remainder of the match in a 23-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-20 loss at Kitty Magee Arena.
Maykayla Mayfield and Miri Shade each registered a TWU-high 14 kills, and Shade added 13 digs for her eighth double-double. Caroline Noel tallied a career-high seven blocks, and Bailey French led the match with 25 digs.
The Lady Buffs began the match with an ace, and the teams combined for nine straight kills for a 5-all tie. A kill by Mayfield to the end line started a four-point run for a 21-15 TWU advantage. A kill down the middle by Briley Cole-Lewis put the Pioneers at set point at 24-20. Mayfield blasted a kill off a Lady Buff defender for the win.
Kills by Kerstin Jenkins and Courtney Noel gave TWU a 9-6 advantage in the fourth. Jenkins kept the Pioneers in front at 19-17 following an ace, but six straight points by the Lady Buffs gave West Texas a 23-19 lead.
"Miri and Makayla both played great matches on the outside," TWU coach Jeff Huebner said.
The Pioneers have their final home contest against Texas-Permian Basin Saturday at 2 p.m. Saturday and will honor seniors Cole-Lewis, Haley Collins, Jenkins and Shade.
