Middle school football roundup: Scott leads McMath to rout of Harpool

The McMath Tigers came out of the gates quickly and steamrolled the Harpool Longhorns 41-0 in an eighth-grade A game Tuesday night.

Xavier Scott had a good game, rushing for 118 yards on six carries, making four tackles, forcing a fumble and recovering another one for the 2-0 Tigers.

Keith Cole started it all with a 1-yard touchdown run. Then, Eric Woods hauled in a 3-yard TD pass from Edson Vasquez. Scott followed with an 11-yard TD run.

Zack Garza grabbed a 28-yard TD pass from Vasquez, Scott scored on a 63-yard fumble recovery and Claude Sheppard returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown.

Vasquez finished by completing seven of 10 passes for 75 yards. Cole had a 34-yard punt return, Teven McAdams had two sacks, Dezmond Johnson had six tackles - two for losses - and John Pesina had an interception.

McMath's offensive line got superior blocking from McAdams, Mitch Damon, Chad Hickson, Kyle Appel and Andy Prado.

 

Harpool eighth-grade B 6, McMath 0

Rikedrian Whitaker's 8-yard touchdown run held up as Harpool got past McMath.

Individually for the Longhorns, Dante Ramacher was a force on defense, along with Seth Howard, who had a touchdown-saving interception.

 

Crownover eighth-grade A 27, Navo 0

Crownover got two rushing touchdowns apiece from Brandon Daniel and Michael Carrillo en route to a big win over Navo.

Carrillo rushed for 137 yards on eight carries. Daniel rushed for 124 yards on nine carries and caused a fumble. Andrew Sanchez recovered a fumble and Mario Caballero had an interception for the Cowboys (2-0).

Crownover got productive blocks from Coleman Grubbs, P.J. Broussard and Marshall Smith, while Luke Cullum contributed several big plays on defense.

 

Crownover eighth-grade B 18, Navo 7

Big plays highlighted Crownover's win over Navo.

Ryan Hale had 105 yards on only four carries and scored on runs of 51 and 43 yards. Jalem Alexander had a 32-yard TD run.

Notable defensive players for the Cowboys (1-1) were Logan Altes, Austin Price, Javier Rivera and Pierce Broughton.

Strickland eighth-grade A 14, Calhoun 8

Nick Watts scored on a 95-yard touchdown pass from D.J. Woods early in the first quarter and Shemar Coleman added a 17-yard TD run later in the game as the Vikings, behind a strong defensive effort, defeated Calhoun 14-8 Tuesday night,

Strickland improved its record to 2-0 for the season.
