Middle School football roundup: Crownovers Carrillo scores five touchdowns

Michael Carrillo had another incredible game, scoring five touchdowns in leading Crownover to a 36-14 win over McMath in an eighth-grade A game Tuesday night.

Carrillo rushed for 260 yards on 24 carries and scored on runs of 8, 32, 27, 3 and 80 yards for the 6-0 Cowboys.

Teammate Brandon Daniel was 3-of-5 passing for 50 yards and had three carries for 47 yards. Luke Cullum caught all three of Daniel's passes.

Crownover got productive blocking from Mason Smith, Marshall Smith, Andrew Sanchez, Mario Caballero, Cullum, Max Smith, Arbi Sullollari, Ryan Bassett, Dharius Timmons, Cesar Vidana, P.J. Broussard, Conner Morton and J.T. Block.

Defensively, Kyle Bird and John Jones had interceptions while Marshall Smith had seven tackles and Caballero and Sanchez each had six tackles.

Other defensive contributors were Coleman Grubbs, Kyle Gelsthorpe and Elijah Bremmer.

For McMath (5-1), Xavier Scott had 90 yards rushing on six carries and scored one touchdown from 37 yards out, Andy Prado had one tackle for a loss and John Pesina had six tackles. Keith Cole had a 75-yard kickoff return for a TD.

 

McMath eighth-grade B 6, Crownover 0

McMath got a 37-yard touchdown run by Pedro Reza to gain a win over Crownover.

For the Tigers (3-3), Hayden Higgs had four catches for 46 yards. Bradley Price and David Guajardo played well offensively.

Defensively for McMath, Cody Roche, David Duggan, Estevan De Alva, Griffen Marchand and Pierson Schroll led the defense.

 

Navo eighth-grade A 31, Strickland 20

Bryce Mason scored two rushing touchdowns in leading Navo to a win over Strickland.

Mason scored on runs of 55 and 35 yards to pace the 4-2 Panthers. Also, teammate Cameron Wax crossed the goal line twice. He caught an 8-yard TD pass from Andrew Flores and scored on a 4-yard run. In addition, Flores had a 5-yard TD run.

 

Navo eighth-grade B 6, Strickland 0

Navo used a 47-yard touchdown pass from Josh Mears to Luke Renner to produce a win over Strickland.

 

Strickland seventh-grade A 12, Navo 0

Randy Gray accounted for two touchdowns in leading Strickland to a win over Navo; it was Strickland's second straight shutout.

The game was called in the third quarter because of bad weather Monday night.

Gray scored on runs of 70 and 49 yards.

"The defense did not allow a point for the second straight game, said Vikings coach Jacob Rojas. "My boys are getting better because they work hard. They are good kids."

 

McMath seventh-grade B 20, Crownover 0

McMath controlled the clock with its rushing game to blank Crownover.

The Tigers (2-3-1) had 160 yards on the ground and scored three rushing touchdowns, including two by C.J. Herrera, who had 90 yards rushing from TD runs of 52 and 38 yards.

Lynn Brice, who had 70 yards on three carries, scored from 46 yards out.

 

Crownover seventh-grade B 26, McMath 12

Crownover kept McMath winless with a convincing win as four players scored touchdowns.

Jacob Alexander scored on a 25-yard run for the Cowboys, Rider Menedeke returned an interception 55 yards for a TD, Cole Kelch scored on a 25-yard run and Geovani Mejia scored on a 40-yard reception.

In addition, Matthew O'Shea and Zane Rodriguez had productive nights running for Crownover (3-3).

On defense, Jacob Crabtree forced a fumble, Kelch recovered a fumble and Mark Hardee nabbed an interception. Jack Henderson also had a solid defensive game.

For the Tigers (0-5-1), the highlights were a Deven Patel touchdown pass to Chase Audrisch, a TD run by Noe Quientero and an interception by Hector Uriotegui.
