Xavier Scott rushed for 318 yards on 12 carries in leading McMath to a 54-40 win over previously unbeaten Crownover for the district championship in a wild eighth-grade A game Tuesday night.
For the Tigers (7-1), Keith Cole offered up 56 yards rushing on 10 carries, scored a rushing touchdown and returning a fumble for a touchdown. He also had three fumble recoveries and a sack. Mitch Damon had six tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery.
Also, Edson Vasquez had 64 yards passing for a touchdown and added a rushing score. In addition, Patrick Mercer had a TD reception and Emerson Espinoza forced a fumble and had a fumble recovery, Kevin Mohair had 5 carries for 73 yards, Hayden Gray had a sack and John Pesina recovered a fumble.
The McMath offensive line cleared the way for 447 yards rushing. Leading the way were Kyle Appel, Mitch Damon, Chad Hickson, Tevan McAdams and Andy Prado.
Crownover was not without its heroic efforts. Michael Carrillo scored on a 22-yard touchdown run, returned a kickoff 73 yards for another score and threw a 63-yard touchdown pass to Luke Cullum.
Also for the Cowboys, Brandon Daniel scored on runs of 78 and 9 yards and Kyle Bird was 5-for-5 on point-after attempts.
Crownover eighth-grade B 21, McMath 14
Crownover got past McMath in a hard-fought game.
Highlighting the effort for the Tigers (4-4) was a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown by Dawson Wright and a 4-yard TD run by David Guajardo.
Calhoun seventh-grade A 13, Little Elm 13
Calhoun and Little Elm battled to a tie.
For the Cougars, Ted Mims caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Tyreke Davis and Delano Robinson scored on a 75-yard TD run.
Calhoun is 7-0-1. Little Elm is 6-1-1.
Calhoun seventh-grade B 19, Little Elm 14
Calhoun defeated previously unbeaten Little Elm.
The Cougars upped their record to 5-3. Little Elm is 7-1.
