The Denton Rangers, an 8-and-under all-star team from Denton Boys Baseball’s recreation league, rolled to a 3-1 record over the weekend and won the 8-under Division title against a collection of select teams in the Super Series Tournament held at Evers Park.
The Rangers got run-scoring hits from Jaxson Last and Ryder Owens in the fifth inning to pull into the lead at 10-9 against the Frisco Rough Riders and then used strong pitching and defense to secure the win in the championship game.
White Sox 11, Tigers 10
Carson Ratzlaff, Tanner Robertson and Nathan Hokanson each had extra-base hits to lead the White Sox.
Ratzlaff had a double and a triple, while Robertson doubled and Hokanson had a triple to lead the offense for the White Sox. Isaac Boodt and Trent Kidd each added singles as the White Sox improved to 4-7.
Hokanson pitched a scoreless inning to preserve the win.
Texans 16-8, Highland Village 13-2
The Denton Texans combined clutch hitting and pitching to record a doubleheader sweep over Highland Village, winning 16-13 and 8-2.
The Texans (9-2-1) jumped out to a 11-0 lead in the first inning of the first game and then had to hold on for the win. Carter Marquis pitched two-plus innings, allowing three hits and striking out three to pick up the win in relief.
Jason Metzler had three hits, including a homer, and drove in two runs, while Marquis had two hits and two RBIs.
Metzler was the pitching star in Game 2, allowing two runs on three hits with six strikeouts in four innings. Rece Parker had two hits, while Marquis, Coby Sullivan, Elliott Brecht and Ross Boisen each had run-scoring hits in the victory.
