Middle School football: Calhoun beats Navo to stay undefeated

The Calhoun Cougars remained unbeaten with a 6-0 eighth-grade A win against Navo on Tuesday night.

The Cougars (3-0) got a 40-yard touchdown run from Caleb Osuafa for its lone score of the game.

Other individual performances of note were Treke Davis rushing for 60 yards on five carries, Jason Gulley gaining 38 yards on four carries and Delano Robinson making five tackles.

 

McMath 8th-grade A 12, Strickland 6

The McMath Tigers used a strong defensive effort to help lead them to a victory over the Strickland Vikings.

CJ Herrera had a touchdown run, and Michael Baker connected with receiver Alexander Goff for the other McMath score as the Tigers improved to 2-1 for the season.

In the B-team game, Josh Crain scored on a 44-yard run and Norberto Berianga kicked the extra point as McMath took a 8-0 victory over Strickland. The McMath B-team is now 1-2 for the season.

 

Lake Dallas 8th-grade A 22, Harpool 20

Gio Williams recovered Nick Au's onside kick with 30 seconds remaining in the game and the Harpool Longhorns quickly drove to the Lake Dallas 12-yard line with no time outs but time expired and the Longhorns suffered a 22-20 loss to Lake Dallas, Harpool's first loss of the season.

Christian Moore was one of the standouts of the game for the Longhorns. He had 65 yards rushing on 12 carries, returned a kickoff 85-yards for a touchdown,  and scored on a nine-yard run. Quarterback Josh Viera was three-of-seven passing for 47 yards and scored on a three-yard run. Christian Puga added 28 yards rushing on eight carries.

The Harpool B-team was a 21-12 winner over Lake Dallas  and now stands 2-0-1 for the season.

 

Harpool 7th-grade A 25, Lake Dallas 0

Mark Loza scored three rushing touchdowns in helping Harpool to a win against Lake Dallas.

Also, Luke Stillwell had a 61-yard TD run, and Ricky Baker had one reception and a 2-point conversion.

In the B-team game, Harpool and Lake Dallas battled to a scoreless tie.

 

Strickland 7th-grade A 22, McMath 0

Despite some big individual performances, McMath lost to Strickland.

McMath’s Jeovanni Dodson had 102 yards rushing, while Nedim Biba had 66 rushing. Also, Austin Llanes had 19 yards rushing and 34 yards passing for the Tigers (0-3).

Strickland won the B-team game 13-0.

 

Calhoun 7th-grade A 33, Navo 6

Adrian Wilson scored three touchdowns in leading Calhoun to a rout of Navo.

Wilson scored on runs of 50 and 63 yards and returned a punt for 48 yards for another score. Jordan Rucker also scored on a 7-yard run for the Cougars (3-0).

On defense for Calhoun, Gabe Douglas had five tackles and Hector Salazar had four tackles.

Navo won the B-team game 23-0, but for Calhoun (0-1-2), Jaylyn Dorsett had five tackles, Austin Seigfried had four and Phillip Torrey had three.

 

Crownover 7th-grade A 7, Little Elm 6

Trevon Turner’s 44-yard touchdown run ignited Crownover to a win against Little Elm.

Other highlights for the Cowboys (2-1) were two fumble recoveries by Carson Kennedy and a 16-yard pass from Colton Phillips to Brandon Hulan.

Crownover scored in the third quarter after a six-play, 82-yard drive and converted the extra point for the victory.

Leading tacklers for the Cowboys were Kennedy and Trent Ponsonby.

Crownover’s defense was led by Michael Sustaita, J.T. Thompson, Jakob Machua and Arian Bhat, while Josh Nicholson, Kyle Ingram, Grayson Wingate and Dylan Guditis led the offensive line.
