Sub-varsity football: Denton freshman Gold beats Azle

Quarterback Brenton Broadbent threw three touchdown passes, and the Denton freshmen Gold team got strong defensive play from Aristotle Montgomery and Oscar Aviles in a 19-14 victory over Azle on Thursday night.

Broadbent hit Pearson Schroll with a 61-yard scoring strike and then connected with Cody Roche for 2- and 6-yard touchdown passes.

Montgomery caused a fumble, and Aviles intercepted a pass as the Gold team improved to 5-3 for the season.

Azle 38, Denton freshmen Purple 28

The Denton freshmen Purple team saw its record slip to 3-5 on the season following its loss to Azle.

Eric Woods scored a pair of touchdowns on runs of 14 and 10 yards for Denton, while Xavier Scott scored on a 1-yard run and Mitch Damon recovered a fumble for a touchdown.

Defensive standouts for Denton were Javion Brewster and Hayden Gray.
