Middle school football: Navo eighth-graders hold off McMath with goal-line stand

The Navo Panthers used a late goal-line stand to seal a thrilling 26-20 win over McMath in an eighth-grade A-team game.

For the Panthers (3-4), Dylan Templeton scored two rushing touchdowns and Deven George added another one. Brian Ugarte caught a 60-yard TD pass from Joshua Branch.

McMath won the B-team game 12-6.

 

Calhoun eighth-grade A 22, Harpool 16

The Calhoun Cougars held off the Harpool Longhorns.

For Harpool (4-3), Josh Viera threw an 85-yard touchdown pass to Christian Moore. Moore added a 28-yard TD run, and Bryson Casmir kicked two extra points.

Viera was 4-of-10 passing for 114 yards, while Moore had 84 yards receiving and 26 yards rushing.

Calhoun and Harpool battled to a scoreless tie in the B-team game. For Calhoun (5-1-1), Tony Rosales had an interception, Eric Perez had nine tackles and Adrian Galvez had five tackles.

 

Lake Dallas eighth-grade A 26, Crownover 6

Lake Dallas got past visiting Crownover despite an impressive game from Baily Blackney.

Blackney rushed for 95 yards and scored on a 1-yard run behind blocking from Jacob Walsh, Zack Davis, Zack Jones, Brodrick Watson, Nathan Wallace, Coleton Kubicek and Giovanni Meija.

Crownover won the B-team game 6-0 as Matthew O’Shea scored on a 10-yard run and Connor Tomlin had an interception for the Cowboys (3-4).

 

Calhoun seventh-grade A 19, Harpool 14

Calhoun kept its record perfect with a win over Harpool.

Spearheading the attack for the Cougars (7-0) was Adrian Wilson, who rushed for 200 yards and scored three touchdowns. Wilson scored on runs of 20 and 60 yards and hauled in a 45-yard TD pass from Tino Rodriguez.

Harpool won the B-team game 13-6. For Calhoun, Isiah Johnson had a 20-yard TD run and Jalen Dorrsett had six tackles.

 

Little Elm seventh-grade B 24, Strickland 6

Little Elm had little trouble in turning back Strickland.

For Strickland, Alejandro Mora had a 45-yard touchdown run. The Vikings fell to 3-3-1.

 

McMath seventh-grade A 36, Navo 6

Tyrus Johnson rushed for 184 yards, scored four touchdowns and had an interception to lead McMath to a big win over Navo.

Johnson scored on runs of 21, 50, 38 and 19 yards. Jeovanni Dodson scored the final TD for the Tigers (1-5-1) and Diego Soriano kicked three extra points.

Navo won the B-team game 7-0. The Panthers (2-5) got a 60-yard TD pass from Omari Ross to Caleb Richardson.

 

Crownover seventh-grade A 20, Lake Dallas 6

Visiting Crownover got touchdowns from three players.

Trevon Turner started things off for the Cougars with a 57-yard TD run. Carson Kennedy and Colton Phillips followed with rushing touchdowns. Connor Riddle had a 40-yard punt return.

Lake Dallas won the B-team game 20-13. For Crownover, Brandon Drew scored a touchdown and had one conversion. Josh Burgess scored a TD for the Cowboys and Michael Cook forced a fumble.

 

Strickland seventh-grade A 30, Little Elm 6

Strickland quarterback Spencer Sanders scored three touchdowns and threw for another.

Sanders scored on runs of 5, 35 and 55 yards. Then he hit Travon Brockington with a 32-yard TD pass.

Defensive leaders for the Vikings (5-1-1) were Brandon Bishop, Andy Castillo and Sanders.
