Sub-varsity football: Coppell scores late to beat Ryan Blue

Paul Hunter had 92 yards rushing on 17 attempts and had 65 passing yards Wednesday night, but it wasn’t enough as the Coppell Cowboys’ junior varsity team scored a 12-7 victory over the Ryan Blue team.

Ryan jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on Hunter’s 1-yard touchdown run, but Coppell scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to take the win.

Markus Jackson added 46 yards rushing on 10 carries for Ryan, while Charles Epperly, Dominic Lopez and Matthew Waggoner had pass receptions.

The Ryan Raiders saw their record slip to 5-3 after dropping a 20-8 decision to the Coppell Cowboys.

Ryan’s Nick Watts scored on a 1-yard run and then passed to Rodney Gladney for the two-point conversion to tie the game at 8 before Coppell scored two unanswered touchdowns.

Shemar Coleman led the rushing attack for Ryan with 50 yards.

Andrew Flores added 48 rushing yards and Watts finished with 17 for the Raiders.

Gladney led the receiving corps with 71 yards on three catches.
