Denton Boys Baseball: Maxwell, Wilson shine in opening triumph

Ryan Maxwell and Jared Wilson gave strong pitching efforts and got the offensive support they needed as the Phillies opened Denton Boys Baseball’s 15-and-under season with a 6-3 victory over the Cubs.

Maxwell fanned seven and Wilson had six strikeouts for the Phillies.

John Blaylock, Peyton Dunworth and Maxwell were the offensive stars for the Phillies with two hits apiece.

Tigers 13, Indians 3

Christian Henry and Matthew Grigg didn’t give up any earned runs and the Tiger offense erupted late for a season-opening victory.

Justin Youngblood, Cullen Martin, Henry and Kal Scheer were the leaders of the Tigers’ offense.

Marlins 10, Royals 9

Brady Russell had a pair of doubles to lead the Marlins to a season-opening victory over the Royals.

Russell was 2-for-3, and Gage Lynn-Hart had one hit and a stolen base. Catcher Jaden Oberkrom led the defensive effort for the Marlins.

Astros 8, Reds 5

Landon Hellman turned in a key defensive play to lead the Astros to a hard-fought victory over the Reds.

Hellman, Cody Edwards, Dameon Stants and Caleb Robertson led the Astros at the plate.

Blue Jays 10, Indians 0

The Blue Jays pounded out 17 hits, with Hunter Smith and Bruce Trahan leading the way with three apiece, as the Blue Jays rolled to a season-opening win over the Indians.

Joining the hit parade for the Blue Jays were David Fuse, Jalen Wada, Levan Cochran and Scott Kirkle with two hits apiece, while Pearson Rougeau, Richard Reyes and Jacob Frosser each had one hit.

Astros 9, Tigers 5

Peyton Jones drove in a pair of runs, had two hits and scored a run as the Astros opened the season with a victory over the Tigers.

Justin Chandler scored two runs and had an inside-the-park home run for the Astros.
