Football: Gentry, Steward score for Ryan freshmen

CORSICANA — Creed Gentry scored on a 1-yard run and Javaris Steward carried in an 8-yard score to lead Ryan’s freshman Blue (1-0) over Corsicana 12-0 on Thursday.

Ryan Blue plays at Wichita Falls Rider at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Ryan JV Red 28, Denton Gold 8

Kyle Smith threw a touchdown pass and rushed for two more to lead Ryan past Denton.

Smith had a 30-yard TD toss to Garrison Balcar.

Defensively, the Raiders (1-0) got a safety and Taireek Green returned an interception 25 yards for a score.

For the Broncos, Matt Peterson had an 8-yard scoring run.

Ryan Red hosts Wichita Falls Rider at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, while Denton Gold (0-1) is at Carrollton R.L. Turner at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Dallas Bishop Lynch JV 33, Denton Purple 21

Brenton Broadbent threw touchdown passes of 65 and 28 yards, but Denton JV Purple dropped its season opener to Dallas Bishop Lynch.

Emerson Espinoza and Pearson Schroll were on the receiving end of the respective scoring tosses. Keith Cole added a 1-yard rushing touchdown for the Broncos (0-1), who play at Carrollton R.L. Turner at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Denton freshman Purple 18, Dallas Bishop Lynch 16

Ted Mimms made the tackle on a Dallas Bishop Lynch 2-point conversion attempt that would have tied the game, giving Denton a season-opening win.

Denton’s Caleb Osuofa opened the scoring with a 55-yard run and Colton Atkinson hit Lynn Brice for a 40-yard TD pass. Robert Reyes ended the first half with a field goal as time expired.

The Broncos (1-0) will host Carrollton R.L. Turner at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Birdville freshmen 8, Denton Gold 6

Denton’s Ryan Kikuchi caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from Luke McDougall, but Birdville scored a late touchdown for an 8-6 win.

Defensively, Javier Rivera had a sack and forced a fumble for the Broncos and Caleb Word and Colton Durrett each had a tackle for loss.

Denton Gold (0-1) hosts Carrollton R.L. Turner at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
