The Harpool Longhorns jumped out to a 15-6 lead in the first quarter — too much for Strickland to overcome — and Harpool rolled to a 56-39 victory in eighth-grade A-team action Thursday night.
Le’Tre Darthard led the way for Harpool with 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and five steals, while De’Ray Darthard finished with 13 points, four steals and three assists. Luke Stillwell added 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Strickland’s Sean Sanders led all scorers with 22 points.
In the B-team game, Harpool won 30-7 as Dameon Moser led the scoring with 11 points.
In the C-team game, Harpool won 32-2 as Andrew Alarcon, Reed Wilhoit and Blane Miller each had six points.
Navo eighth-grade A 39, Calhoun 38 (OT)
The Navo Panthers had to go into overtime to record a one-point victory over the Calhoun Cougars in the season opener for both squads.
Kollin Burris led the scoring for Calhoun with 18 points and had four assists and four steals. Will Holtz finished the evening with 11 points, 13 rebounds, two blocks and three steals.
In the B-team game, Navo recorded a 24-12 victory as Joan Arias and Eddy Salagala led the scoring for the Cougars with four points apiece while Brandon Wallace had five steals and Salagala had eight rebounds.
In the C-team game, Navo won 25-2. Rey Lopez had the only points for Calhoun and recorded three steals. Philip Torrey had four steals.
Crownover seventh-grade A 54, Little Elm 24
The Crownover Cowboys jumped out to a 28-12 first-half advantage and eased to a 30-point win over Little Elm.
Devion Harmon led all scorers with 20 point for the Cowboys while Sam Meeks finished with 12, Cole Schroeder had eight and Calvin Phillips seven.
Crownover seventh-grade C 22, Little Elm 20
Josh Crabtree hit a jumper with one second remaining as the Crownover Cowboys rallied for a two-point victory.
The Cowboys trailed 12-2 at halftime before outscoring Little Elm 20-8 in the second half. Mario Alea-Ngongo led Crownover with nine points while Crabtree finished with five and Ross Boisen had four.
Navo seventh-grade A 71, Calhoun 12
Deondre Dansby proved to be too much for the Calhoun Cougars to handle as he led the Navo Panthers to a lopsided victory.
Dansby finished with 19 points while Mark Leslie and Kiran Anderson had 12 points apiece.
Navo seventh-grade B 26, Calhoun 17
The Navo Panthers, behind the play of Alejandro Rivera and Mitchell Leslie, rolled to a nine-point win over Calhoun.
Rivera scored nine points.
Navo seventh-grade C 31, Calhoun 0
John McDaniel and Jeremiah Richardson each scored eight points as the Navo Panthers opened the season with a victory over the Calhoun Cougars.
Jeremy Keen had five rebounds while Thomas Jarrett had two steals and three rebounds for Calhoun.
Harpool eighth-grade A 29, Strickland 11
Behind the scoring of Breyer Winder and Alexiss Benton, the Harpool Lady Longhorns rolled to a big win over Strickland.
Winder scored 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, while Benton finished the evening with 10 points. Kalia Beckwith led Harpool with eight steals.
Strickland eighth-grade B 15, Harpool 8
The Strickland Vikings got the season started with a seven-point victory over Harpool.
Batulie Jalloh led the scoring for the Lady Longhorns with four points, while Tabitha Pritchett and Heidy Ambrosio played well defensively and Kailey Kidd led the team in rebounding.
Harpool eighth-grade C 14, Strickland 14
The Harpool Lady Longhorns and the Strickland Vikings battled to a 14-all deadlock.
Eni Akinniyi led the scoring for Harpool with eight points while Mallory Pittman finished with four.
Navo seventh-grade A 59, Calhoun 7
The trio of Britain Hartzell, Eleighseea Rasmussen and Makenna Sweet scored 51 of Navo’s 59 points as the Lady Panthers powered past Calhoun.
Hartzell led all scorers with 21 points while Rasmussen added 20 and Sweet finished with 10.
Navo eighth-grade B 38, Calhoun 0
Jaden Hoelker scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Navo Lady Panthers to the huge win.
Kayla Willis scored eight points, while Gracen Burton had seven steals and 10 assists.
Navo seventh-grade B 14, Calhoun 2
Grace Alexander and Kyra Friedman each scored four points to lead Navo.
Rylee Carpenter led the Lady Panthers in rebounding with eight and had four assists, Julia Hoppe had two rebounds and five assists and Friedman finished with seven steals and two assists.
Harpool seventh-grade A 25, Strickland 15
Callie Boyles scored 14 points and Caylie Austin added nine as the Harpoll Lady Longhorns knocked off Strickland.
Kaleigh Peacock and Rylee Reed were standouts for Harpool on defense.
