Strickland’s Spencer Sanders came within one point of matching the total offensive output of Calhoun as the A-team Vikings rolled to a 54-28 triumph in eighth-grade action Monday night.
Sanders scored 27 points — 20 of those in the first half — pulled down 18 rebounds and had four steals to lead the Vikings (1-1). Joseph Frisby finished with 13 points and three assists.
In the B-team game, Andy Castillo scored 10 points to lead Strickland to a 33-14 victory over Calhoun.
Harpool eighth-grade A 46, Muenster 21
The Harpool Longhorns raced out to a 23-8 halftime advantage and coasted to a 25-point victory over Muenster.
Ricky Baker led the Longhorns (2-0) with 13 points and four rebounds, Renaldo Ortega had eight points and five rebounds, Le’Tre Darthard had seven points and Luke Stillwell finished with six points, six rebounds and three steals.
Lake Dallas eighth-grade A 53, Navo 44
Shawn Roland scored 23 points and Adrian Wilson added 12 but is wasn’t enough for Navo as Lake Dallas held off a fourth-quarter rally.
In the B-team game, Lake Dallas pulled away in the second half to take a 24-15 victory over Navo. In the C-team game, Navo claimed a 25-19 victory over Lake Dallas.
Strickland seventh-grade A 51, Calhoun 16
The Strickland Vikings outscored the Calhoun Cougars 21-0 in the first quarter en route to a lopsided victory.
Stanley Nwosu led the scoring for the Vikings with 20 points while Joe Dickenson had 12 points and Patrick Brinkley 10.
Strickland seventh-grade B 30, Calhoun 22
The Strickland Vikings broke open a tight game by outscoring Calhoun 13-8 in the third quarter.
Luke Hill led the scoring for the Vikings with nine points while Drake Miller had five points and Gage Lynn-Hart three.
Strickland seventh-grade C 25, Calhoun 9
The Strickland Vikings broke open a tight game with 10 second-quarter points on their way to a 16-point victory over Calhoun.
Dylan West and Lewis Acosta led the Vikings in scoring with five points apiece while Cole Lee finished with four.
Thomas Jarrett led the scoring for the Cougars with three points while Jared Spada and Jeremy Keen had two points apiece.
Navo seventh-grade A 37, Lake Dallas 28
The Panthers trailed by seven points heading into the third quarter and outscored Lake Dallas 27-10 in the second half to improve to 2-0.
Adam McNeil and Kiran Anderson led the Panthers with eight points apiece while Deondre Dansby and Palmer Cambell each had five and Christian Williams and Kerrell Wood finished with four apiece.
Lake Dallas seventh-grade B 26, Navo 24 (OT)
Lake Dallas jumped out to a big lead before Navo rallied to force overtime.
Terry Pierce led the scoring for the Panthers with eight points while Quintereus Mitchell, Alejandro Rivera and Jhari Grose each scored four.
Navo seventh-grade C 14, Lake Dallas 10
The Navo Panthers rallied from behind and outscored Lake Dallas 9-4 in the second half to take their second victory of the season.
Terry Lowery led the scoring for the Panthers with seven points while Ta’Vion Wafford had three and Brandon Lawson and Logan McDaniel finished with two apiece.
Navo eighth-grade B 38, Calhoun 0
Jaden Hoelker scored 12 points and had eight rebounds while Kayla Willis added eight points as the Navo Lady Panthers overwhelmed the Calhoun Lady Cougars.
Gracen Burton led the Panthers with seven steals and 10 assists.
Navo seventh-grade A 35, Lake Dallas 4
The Navo Lady Panthers, led by the defensive play of Alexa Barnes, held Lake Dallas to three points through three quarters while Eleighseea Rasmussen and Britain Hartzell paced the Navo offense in a 31-point victory.
Rasmussen had 16 points and Hartzell added 12 to lead the 2-0 Panthers.
Navo seventh-grade B 16, Lake Dallas 9
Behind the play of Grace Alexander, the Navo Lady Panthers rolled to their second win with a seven-point decision over Lake Dallas.
Alexander led the scoring with eight points, pulled down 18 rebounds, had six assists and made two steals. Kyra Friedman led the team with 10 steals while Kya Bowens had eight steals.
