Middle School volleyball roundup: McMath to play for district championship after sweeping Calhoun

McMath took a straight-set victory, beating Calhoun 25-10, 25-18 in an eighth-grade A match on Wednesday night.

Leading the way for the Lady Longhorns were Kenzie Dozier, Megan Poe, Maddie Green, Emily Curtis, A.J. Gerdes, Gabby Marchand, Kristin Williamson, Dana Akins and Anjali Balakrishna.

McMath will play for the district championship against Lake Dallas on Thursday.

McMath also won the B team match, 25-10, 25-11.


Harpool eighth-grade A d. Strickland

Led by 16 points from Lauren Estrada, Hapool turned back Strickland 25-8, 12-25, 25-18.

Also for the Lady Longhorns (11-3), Emily Hill had 12 points and Mallory McKnight had 10 points.

Strickland fell to 1-7.


Strickland eighth-grade B d. Harpool

Harpool suffered just its second loss, dropping a 25-15, 27-25 decision to Strickland.

Despite the loss, the Lady Longhorns (6-2) got productive games from Tara Soloman with 11 points and Delaney Cook with eight points.

Strickland improved to 5-3.


Strickland eighth-grade C d. Harpool

Strickland rallied to beat Harpool in three sets, 25-18, 20-25, 26-24.

For Harpool (4-4), the lead severs were Abby Stanford with 12 points, Celeste Dell Castillo with 11 points and Megan Baker with 15 points.

Strickland evened its record at 4-4.


Harpool seventh-grade A d. Strickland

Harpool improved to 7-1 with a 25-8, 25-11 win over Strickland.

Leading the way for the Lady Longhorns were Lauren Heard and Isabel Jimenez. Each had two kills and Jimenez added two aces.


Strickland seventh-grade B d. Harpool

Strickland turned back Harpool, 25-18, 25-10.

For the Lady Longhorns (4-4), Chloe Herlacher and Kelleigh Anderson each had one ace.


Harpool seventh-grade C d. Strickland

Harpool defeated Strickland 25-18, 20-25, 15-9 as Launa Wills had two kills and Tori Gardner and Natalie Wetherington led in serves.

The Lady Longhorns improved to 7-1.


Navo seventh-grade C d. Crownover

Navo rallied after losing the first set to defeat Crownover, 21-25, 25-22, 15-8.

Danajia Haynes, Tatyana Bagby, and Alyssa Pugh were the leaders on the court and from behind the serving line.


Crownover seventh-grade B d. Navo

Crownover defeated Navo in the second close matchup this season. After winning the first set 25-23, Navo fell to Crownover in the second and third sets.

Navo's Sarah Hoffman led her team from behind the line with her consistent serving and also had two kills. Haley Sweek accumulated an ace from the serving line. Riley Grant was hitting well for Navo on the front row and had three kills, while Julia McKeathan and Samantha Simmons each had two.
