Sub-varsity football: Hunter produces five touchdowns as Ryan rips Rider

Paul Hunter accounted for five touchdowns in leading Ryan’s junior varsity Blue team to a 42-14 win over Wichita Falls Rider.

Hunter was 12-of-17 passing for 131 yards and two touchdowns. In addition, he rushed for 165 yards on 18 carries and scored on runs of 40, 24 and 3 yards.

Hunter started the scoring for the Raiders with a 15-yard TD pass to Jordan Murray. Luis Estrada tacked on the extra point. Then, Hunter found Charles Epperly from 18 yards out for another score.

Darian Simon finished off the Ryan scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run.

Chron McCall had 53 yards rushing on only three carries. Epperly caught four passes for 62 yards.


Ryan JV Blue 26, Corsicana 6

Hunter completed nine of 11 passes for 135 yards and one touchdown and added three rushing TDs in leading Ryan past Corsicana.

Hunter started the scoring with a 37-yard touchdown run, and Estrada added the PAT.

After a score by Corsicana, Hunter came back with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Matthew Waggoner. Estrada added the extra point.

Hunter, who had 98 yards rushing, finished the scoring with touchdown runs of 6 and 7 yards.


Denton freshman Purple 47, Carrollton R.L. Turner 0

Xavier Scott scored two touchdowns and quarterback Edson Vasquez had two long scoring passes as Denton shut out R.L. Turner.

Scott scored on a 30-yard run and caught a 60-yard TD pass from Vasquez, while Emerson Espinoza hauled in a 49-yard scoring pass.

Jaden Aland returned a fumble 31 yards for a TD, Bryce Mason scored on a 31-yard run and Eric Woods capped the night with a 32-yard touchdown run.


Denton freshman Gold 40, Carrollton R.L. Turner 0

Victor Marquez had scoring runs of 13, 12 and 20 yards and added a two-point conversion run to lead Denton.

Kobe Thomas-Joshua had a 24-yard rushing touchdown for Denton.

Quarterback Brent Broadbent completed a 23-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Duggan and connected with Pearson Schroll, Cody Roche and Duggan on two-point conversion passes.

Angel Salazar, Daivante Young, Pedro Reza, Logan Dorsey and Oscar Aviles also turned in strong performances for the Gold squad.


Ryan freshman A 28, Wichita Falls Rider 21

Rodney Gladney ignited Ryan’s offense in the win over Rider.

Gladney hauled in two touchdown passes, both from 15 yards out, from Nick Watts to get the Raiders going. Andrew Flores scored on a 1-yard run and later added a 24-yard TD scamper.

J.D. DelaRosa’s fourth extra point capped the scoring.

Ryan’s Austin Shanks had an interception and fumble recovery, and Cesar Ramirez caused a fumble.
