Sub-varsity football: Hunter powers Ryan to victory

Paul Hunter had 236 yards in total offense in leading Ryan’s Blue team to a 42-0 win over Wylie East in a junior varsity game Thursday night.

Hunter scored on runs of 3 and 70 yards for the Raiders and added a 34-yard scoring pass to Jordan McQueen. Hunter finished 7-for-11 for 123 yards passing and carried eight times for 113 yards.

Also helping with the win was a 65-yard kickoff return for a TD by Mecca McQueen.


Denton freshman A 34, Fort Worth Western Hills 6

Edson Vasquez threw two touchdowns passes in helping lead Denton to a big win over Fort Worth Western Hills.

Vasquez threw an 18-yard TD pass to Emerson Espinoza to start the scoring for the Broncos (2-1). Later he hit Sama’j Griggs with a 21-yard scoring toss.

Xavier Scott added touchdown runs of 4 and 6 yards. Byrce Mason scored on a 26-yard gallop.

Other highlights were two fumble recoveries and an interception by Eric Woods, and Griggs had an interception. Alexis Ventura and Jaden Aland each recorded one sack.


Denton freshman B 8, Fort Worth Western Hills 0

Victor Marquez accounted for Denton’s only touchdown with a 5-yard run.

Also for the Broncos (2-1), Angel Salazar and Daniel Duggan each had a tackle for a loss and a sack.

Marquez and Johnny Fletcher each recorded a sack for the Denton defense.

In addition to runs of 26 and 16 yards, Isaiah Manuel added a tackle for a loss. Brent Broadbent completed a pass to Pearson Schroll and also ran for the successful 2-point conversion after Marquez’s touchdown.


Guyer freshman A 24, Flower Mound Marcus 6

Brandon Daniel rushed for 123 yards on 16 carries in leading Guyer to a big win over Marcus.

Daniel scored on runs of 65, 15 and 27 yards to lead the Wildcats. Dharius Timmons, who had 67 yards on nine carries, added a 34-yard touchdown run.

Guyer’s Mike Carrillo had 78 yards on 10 carries, Felipe Fontes had seven tackles and Seth Howard had an interception.
