Middle school football roundup: Viera finds paydirt in Harpool win

Josh Viera scored two touchdowns in leading Harpool to a 12-0 victory over McMath on Tuesday in an eighth-grade A-team game.

Viera scored on runs of 1 and 79 yards for the Longhorns (2-0). Viera had a total of 90 yards rushing.

Other running backs who contributed for Harpool were Myron Mason, Christian Moore and Christian Puga.

Credit also went to Harpool’s offensive line and receivers. Copeland Farr and Sam Yokobosky each had an interception at a crucial time in the game.

For McMath, C.J. Herrera, Simon Bonilla and Carlos Cornelio made tackles for losses.

Harpool won the B-team game 6-0 as Peter Miller scored on a 3-yard touchdown run.

McMath’s Ahmad Khalipha had five tackles and two sacks, and Calab Word had 12 tackles, including four tackles for losses and two sacks.


Calhoun eighth-grade A 21, Strickland 0

Caleb Osuafa scored two touchdowns for Calhoun.

Osuafa scored on a 15-yard interception return and a 25-yard run for the Cougars (2-0). Jason Gulley scored on a 12-yard run for Calhoun’s other score.

Also for the Cougars, Thomas Wilson recorded a sack and had four solo tackles.


Navo eighth-grade A 18, Crownover 0

Navo evened its record at 1-1 with an impressive win over Crownover.

Joshua Branch scored on a 1-yard run to start things off. Deven George scored on a 3-yard TD dash, and Dylan Templeton closed out the scoring with a 99-yard touchdown run.


Crownover eighth-grade B 8, Navo 6

A fumble recovery in the end zone by Brandon Lively led Crownover to an exciting win over Navo.

Jacob Crabtree kicked the extra point that lifted the Cowboys (1-1) to the victory. Crabtree finished with six tackles for losses.

Garrett Kormos, Victor Caballero and Zechariah Hays also made major contributions for Crownover.


Harpool seventh-grade A 31, McMath 14

Mark Loza rushed for 170 yards and three touchdowns in leading Harpool.

Loza scored on runs of 53, 11 and 14 yards to help the Longhorns improve to 1-0-1.

Other highlights were a 24-yard TD run by Luke Stillwell and a 61-yard touchdown pass from Stillwell to Le ‘Tre Darthard.

For McMath (0-2), Jeovanni Dodson had 92 yards rushing and kicked an extra point while Nedim Biba had a 21-yard touchdown run.

Austin Llanes scored on a 17-yard TD run for the Tigers.

Harpool won the B-team game 25-0.


Calhoun seventh-grade A 25, Strickland 2

Adrian Wilson scored on touchdown runs of 50 and 80 yards to lead Calhoun.

Another highlight for the Cougars (2-0) was a 25-yard TD pass from Tino Rodriguez to Gabe Douglas. Hector Salazar made seven solo tackles.
