Middle school football: Harpool dominates Crownover, 32-7

The Harpool Longhorns used a balanced offensive attack to dominate the Crownover Cowboys 32-7 in an eighth-grade A-team game Wednesday night.

Josh Viera was 2-for-2 passing with one touchdown for the Longhorns (3-1). Logien Franklin had one carry for a 63-yard TD run, and Christian Moore had 41-yard TD run. Thabo Mwaniki and Manny Bronner each had an interception. Mwaniki returned his interception for 37 yards for a touchdown.

For Crownover, Baily Blackney scored on a 5-yard run and Justin Tupper caught a pass for the extra point. Tupper caught five passes for 60 yards.

Harpool won the B-team game 19-8. Crownover’s Zechariah Hays had a 72-yard TD reception from Jacob Crabtree, and Peter Reilly kicked the extra point. Julien Rogers had an interception.


Little Elm eighth-grade A 12, Navo 0

The Little Elm defense produced a shutout against Navo.

Little Elm also won the B-team game 33-15.

Both Navo teams are 1-3 for the season.


Calhoun seventh-grade A 43, McMath 12

Adrian Wilson scored three touchdowns in leading the Calhoun Cougars past the McMath Tigers.

Wilson scored on a 50-yard run, a 40-yard kickoff return and 48-yard interception return for the Cougars (4-0).

Gabe Douglas hauled in a 45-yard TD pass from Tino Rodriguez for another Calhoun score. Hector Salazar had a 17-yard fumble return and Rodriguez scored on a 1-yard run. Defensively, Toreayn Hughes had six solo tackles and Tyrell Hill had four solo tackles for the Cougars.


Calhoun seventh-grade B 24, McMath 6

Calhoun captured its first win of the season with a decisive win against McMath.

Highlighting the win for the Cougars (1-1-2) were two touchdown runs by Isiah Johnson, who scored on runs of 60 and 22 yards.

Luis Reyes scored on a 62-yard run for Calhoun.


Little Elm seventh-grade A 28, Navo 20

Little Elm went on the road and beat the Navo Panthers.

For the Panthers, Kenechi Nworjih scored a rushing touchdown and returned a kick for a score. Caleb Richardson caught a touchdown pass and Omari Ross threw one.

Navo dropped to 0-4.

Little Elm won the B-team game 26-0.


Strickland seventh-grade A 13, Lake Dallas 0

Quarterback Spencer Sanders helped lead the Strickland Vikings to a win over Lake Dallas. He ran for two touchdowns, including one from 96 yards out.

Sanders also made two key interceptions from his strong safety position. Linebackers Kosi Eldridge and Brandon Bishop led the Viking defense in tackles.

Lake Dallas seventh-grade B 13, Strickland 6

Lake Dallas took advantage of Strickland’s offensive mistakes to register a victory.

Strickland (1-2-1) received a productive game from Taylor Stone, who scored the Vikings’ only touchdown, and Alejandro Moro, who had 60 yards rushing.


Harpool seventh-grade A 32, Crownover 20

Harpool posted an impressive victory against Crownover to remain unbeaten.

For the Longhorns (3-0-1), Mark Loza had 67 yards rushing and scored three touchdowns. Luke Stillwell was 5-of-11 passing for 115 yards. He also scored on a conversion run and threw for another one.

Crownover (2-2) got rushing touchdowns from Trevon Turner and Carson Kennedy and a 42-yard TD pass from Trent Ponsonby to Spencer Eaton.

The leading tacklers for the Cowboys were Ponsonby and Kennedy.

Harpool won the B-team game 26-6.
