Middle school volleyball: Lady Cougars beat Strickland for first victory

The Calhoun Lady Cougars posted their first win of the season with a 25-6, 25-11 decision against Strickland in an eighth-grade A-team game.

For the Lady Cougars (1-5, 1-2 district), Justus Geary had 15 service points and Ivy Fagan had 10 points. Top passers for Calhoun were Carlee Brittain, Danielle Bradfield, Jasmine Williams and Lezy Salazar.

The top hitters for the Lady Cougars were Lauren Gay, Williams and Hannah Arbaugh.

Strickland won the B-team match 25-10, 25-0. The top servers for Calhoun were Hannah Williams and Brianna Faulkner.

Calhoun won the C-team match 25-14, 25-18 as Dami Hand had 13 service points and Chloe Reyes had eight points and three digs. The Lady Cougars’ Khaleigh Hopkins had seven points, including three aces, and Natashia Paulton had three digs.


McMath eighth-grade A d. Crownover

McMath got major contributions from key players and posted a 25-15, 22-25, 25-11 win over Crownover.

The Lady Tigers (5-1) got productive games from Emily Ackers, Taylor Soto and Cricket Jones and solid serving from Lindsey Devore.


Little Elm eighth-grade A d. Navo

Despite strong games from Jade Parrish, Hannah Sargent and Sydney Finch, Navo lost to Little Elm 25-19, 25-22.

Parrish had 14 services aces and 14 assists, while Sargent had seven aces. Finch finished with 11 assists as Navo fell to 5-5.


Lake Dallas eighth-grade A d. Harpool

Lake Dallas captured a 25-11, 25-21 win over Harpool.

Leading servers for Harpool (4-2) were Sydney Swann with 13 service points, Kelleigh Anderson with 11 points and Shelby Heitkamp with nine points.

Lake Dallas won the B-team match 25-13, 28-26. For Harpool (5-1), Anna Martin-Denton had 11 points and Jasmine Deckard had 10 points.

Lake Dallas also won the C-team match with a 25-20, 25-12 decision. For Harpool, Ashlynn Singletary had eight points and Allyse Pearce had six.


Strickland seventh-grade A d. Calhoun

Strickland defeated Calhoun 25-18, 25-17 to remain in first place in its division.

Major contributors for the Lady Vikings were Landry Raesz, Shyla Rios and Macie Smith.

Strickland won the B-team match 22-25, 25-12, 15-8 and captured the C-team match 25-9, 25-22. The Lady Vikings’ B and C teams are also in first place.


Lake Dallas seventh-grade A d. Harpool

Lake Dallas had a tough time but put away Harpool 16-25, 25-12, 25-20.

For Harpool (2-4), Saylor Snowden had eight digs and Sophie Ramirez had five digs. Caroline Orozco had four kills and Angel Felan had three, and Bryer Winder had one block and two aces.

Lake Dallas won the B-team match 25-19, 25-14. For Harpool, Molly Gilkey had nine service points and two aces, while Elle Baumgarten had two kills.

Harpool (5-1) won the C-team match 14-25, 25-21, 15-12. For Harpool, Megan Dixon had one kill and nine service points and Presley Woods had one dig.


McMath seventh-grade A d. Crownover

Undefeated McMath faced an undefeated Crownover team in the final match of the regular season and came away with a 25-19, 25-5 win.

The Lady Tigers came out a little hesitant but still won the first set. Kate Cowan, Lucy Martin, Miles Baker and Sydnie Acker all had productive matches.

The A team finished the regular season 10-0 overall and 6-0 in district play, earning the No. 1 overall seed for the playoffs.

The Lady Tigers face Navo at home Wednesday in their first playoff match.
