Middle school football: Llanes leads McMath to shutout win over Crownover

Sparked by Austin Llanes, the McMath Tigers rolled to a 20-0 win over the Crownover Cowboys on Tuesday night at Bronco Field.

Llanes had a breakout game by throwing for 167 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Alex Goff. Llanes hit Goff, who had 88 yards receiving, on scoring strikes of 32 and 36 yards.

Later, Llanes connected with Chase Audirsch for a 19-yard TD pass and Juan Reyna tacked on his second extra point.

Grant Polley had a fumble recovery to highlight the victory for the Tigers (3-3).

Crownover registered a 9-0 win in the B-team game. Matthew O'Shea scored on a 2-yard run and Peter Reilly kicked a 28-yard field goal.


Little Elm eighth-grade A 18, Harpool 16

Little Elm held off the Harpool Longhorns in an exciting game.

For the Longhorns (4-2), Josh Viera scored on runs of 2 and 3 yards and Bryson Casmir kicked two extra points.

Harpool won the B-team game 8-0 to improve to 4-1-1.


Navo eighth-grade A 20, Strickland 12

Dylan Templeton scored two touchdowns in leading the Navo Panthers to a win.

Templeton, Deven George, Joshua Branch, Ramelo Lenior, John Bosquez and Javier River combined for almost 200 yards rushing.

Navo won the B-team game 14-0.


Crownover seventh-grade A 13, McMath 6

Crownover evened its record with a hard-fought win over McMath.

Trevon Turner scored on a 4-yard run and Arian Bhat returned a fumble 24 yards for a touchdown to lift the Cowboys (3-3).

Leading tacklers for Crownover were Trent Ponsonby and Turner. The Cowboys got a strong effort from defensive linemen Michael Sustaita, J.T. Thompson, Jakob Machuca and Garrett Keuer. Crownover's offensive line was led by Josh Nicholson, Kyle Ingram, Grayson Wingate, Sustaita, Thompson and Matthew Martinez.

For McMath (0-5-1), Jeovanni Dodson scored on a 57-yard run and had 94 yards rushing. Tyrus Johnson had 31 yards rushing and seven yards passing, and Juan Rabago had 24 yards receiving.

Crownover won the B-team game 21-12. For McMath, Christian Garcia had a 25-yard rushing touchdown and Christian Prescott caught a 12-yard TD pass from Brian Allo.


Strickland seventh-grade A 35, Navo 6

The Strickland Vikings kept Navo winless.

For the Vikings (4-1-1), Spencer Sanders had two rushing touchdowns. Sanders also threw scoring passes to Joseph Frisby, Travon Brockington and Kosi Eldridge.

Strickland's defense was led by linebackers Brandon Bishop, Eldridge and Sanders.

Strickland won the B-team game 12-0. For the Vikings (3-2-1), Alejandro Mora had two fumble recoveries for touchdowns. Rafael Alvarez had 50 yards rushing, McCarty Harris had one sack and Jason Dotson had five tackles and caused a fumble.


Little Elm seventh-grade A 22, Harpool 19

Despite another big night for Luke Stillwell, Harpool lost a close encounter with Little Elm.

Stillwell scored on runs of 19, 6 and 15 yards and converted a two-point conversion.

Harpool won the B-team game 19-8.
