Middle school basketball: Calhoun quartet contributes key firepower as Cougars cruise

The Calhoun foursome of Tyreke Davis, Jason Gulley, Thomas Wilson and Caleb Osuofa was too much for the Navo Panthers to overcome Thursday in a 55-38 Cougar victory.

Davis had 18 points, eight steals and four rebounds, Gulley had 14 points, three steals and four assists, Wilson had 10 points and Osuofa had nine points, six steals and three rebounds to lead the unbeaten Cougars to their fifth win.


Calhoun eighth-grade B 29, Navo 25

The Calhoun Cougars rallied from eight points down in the first quarter.

Calhoun (2-3) was led by Zarin Santos’ nine points, seven rebounds and three steals. Erick Perez had six points, six steals and eight rebounds, while Zion Adkins finished with five points and three rebounds.


Navo eighth-grade C 19, Calhoun 18

The Navo Panthers overcame a six-point halftime deficit.

Josh Edwards had eight points and Mark West added four for Calhoun (1-4).


Little Elm seventh-grade A 41, Strickland 34

The Strickland Vikings put up a valiant fight against unbeaten Little Elm.

Spencer Sanders led Strickland (3-2) with 16 points, while Trayvon Brockington finished with six and Joseph Frisby added five.


Little Elm seventh-grade B 25, Strickland 6

Little Elm broke open a tight game by outscoring the Strickland Vikings 9-2 in the second quarter.

Tiris Moore, Trevor Durante and Abraham Hernandez each had two points for Strickland (2-3).


Calhoun seventh-grade A 42, Navo 28

Adrian Wilson and Adrian Buyone led the Calhoun attack.

Wilson had 16 points, six steals and two assists, while Buyone finished with nine points, two assists and four rebounds. Toryan Hughes had six points, four rebounds and three steals as Calhoun improved to 3-2.


Calhoun seventh-grade B 34, Navo 21

The Calhoun Cougars outscored Navo 7-0 in the first quarter to pull away.

Devin Harris led Calhoun (3-2) with 10 points, four steals and two assists. Isaiah Johnson had six points, 10 rebounds and three steals, while Elijah Anderson had six points, three rebounds and one assist.


Calhoun seventh-grade C 12, Navo 10

The Calhoun Cougars had to withstand a fourth-quarter rally by Navo to secure their two-point victory.

Miguel Rivera led the Cougars (2-3) with five points, three steals and three rebounds. Luis Reyes had three points, five rebounds and two steals.


Crownover seventh-grade A 33, Lake Dallas 29

The Crownover Cowboys had to withstand a fourth-quarter rally by Lake Dallas to claim their second win.

Spencer Eaton led Crownover with nine points, followed by Connor Riddle with seven and Dylan Bourey with five.


Crownover seventh-grade B 20, Lake Dallas 16

Crownover rallied in the second quarter to take a two-point halftime lead and held on from there.

Dabira Ogunwuyi led the Cowboys in scoring with nine points, while Brendan Drew and Kyle Ingram add four and three, respectively.



Navo eighth-grade A 44, Calhoun 10

Sydney Finch and Julia McKeathen combined for 28 points as Navo rolled.

Finch had 15 points and 10 steals and McKeathen had 13 points and 16 steals for Navo (3-2). Carly Lesue had six points and 13 rebounds, while Desiree Weise had six points and six rebounds.


Navo eighth-grade B 41, Calhoun 4

The Navo Lady Panthers, led by Smantha Simmons and Kendra Dora, ran their record to 5-0.

Simmons scored 22 points while Dora added 14. Jesnica McNary and Laura Dickerson led the Navo defensive effort.


Harpool eighth-grade A 46, McMath 6

Madie Freeze and Elizabeth Donnelly combined for 25 points to lead the Harpool Lady Longhorns to a convincing win.

Freeze led all scorers with 15 points and Donnelly added 10. Anna Martin finished with nine points and Sydney Swann and Destany Hall each had six for the Longhorns (4-1).

The Lady Tigers (1-4) got two points apiece from Mikayla Bowles, Syndey Kelly and Caitlyn Mitchell.


Harpool eighth-grade B 31, McMath 8

Harpool held McMath scoreless in the first half.

Lauren Belton led Harpool (3-2) with 10 points, Alley Sutherland and Launa Wilson had six apiece and Bailey Moss finished with five.

La Porshe Woods led McMath (1-4) with six points while Lydia Pluscht added two.


Harpool eighth-grade C 27, McMath 4

Elle Bigelow poured in 19 points to lead Harpool to its third win. Ashlynn Singletary added eight points.

Hayley Naples and Hannah Hilton each scored two points for McMath (2-2).


Lake Dallas eighth-grade A 35, Crownover 27

Avery Priddy poured in 12 points and Sydney Meadors added five for Crownover (2-3) in a hard-fought loss.


Lake Dallas eighth-grade B 28, Crownover 9

The Crownover Lady Cowboys never could get their offense going in a 19-point loss.

Kaylee Cobb led Crownover (1-4) with five points.


Lake Dallas eighth-grade C 14, Crownover 6

Bailey Cherry and Ashley Hawkins each had two points as the Crownover Lady Cowboys slipped to 1-3.


Navo seventh-grade A 52, Calhoun 12

All but one Navo player scored as the Lady Panthers ran their record to 5-0 with a 40-point victory.

Jamie Means was Navo’s leading scorer with 12 points, while Kaiya Turner and Taylor Pierce followed with 10 and eight points, respectively. Sydney Tyler had seven points and led the defensive effort with several steals.


Navo seventh-grade B 49, Calhoun 6

Deadly shooting and strong defense enabled the Navo Lady Panthers to jump out to a 19-0 first-quarter lead.

Taji Prichett led Navo (5-2) with 12 points and had 10 steals. Alexis Dains scored nine points, and Racheal Deramee posted 21 rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Emma Abel had 11 rebounds, and Grayson Burton had four rebounds, 13 steals and six assists.


Navo seventh-grade C 24, Calhoun 2

The Navo Lady Panthers held Calhoun scoreless for the first three quarters.

Destiny Rowe led Navo (4-3) with 14 points and 17 steals. Rachel Miller added four points, while Brooke Grellhesl had eight rebounds and Reagon Corley pulled down seven.


Harpool seventh-grade A 36, McMath 19

The Harpool Lady Longhorns used a strong offensive effort to take an 18-point halftime lead.

Alexiss Benton led Harpool (4-1) with 13 points while Breyer Winder had seven and Katherine Silvaggio six.

Kate Cowan and Alyssa Williamson led McMath (2-3) with six points apiece.


Harpool seventh-grade B 31, McMath 7

Harpool turned up the defensive pressure in the second half to hold the McMath Lady Tigers scoreless after the Lady Longhorns led by six at halftime.

Kailey Kidd led the Lady Longhorns (4-1) with 10 points while Elle Baumgarten had eight and Sophie Ramirez finished with seven.

Yuli Flores led McMath with four points and Alise Walther added three.


Harpool seventh-grade C 12, McMath 3

Harpool held McMath scoreless in the first and fourth quarters on its way to its second win.

Mallory Pittman led the Lady Longhorns with four points.

Maria Ramirez did all the scoring for McMath (2-3).


Lake Dallas seventh-grade A 22, Crownover 11

The Lady Cowboys of Crownover got balanced scoring from four players, but it wasn’t enough.

Naomi Reagan scored four points, Ashley Schroeder had three and Taylor Wallace and Taylor Brann each added two as Crownover fell to 1-4.


Crownover seventh-grade B 18, Lake Dallas 16

Behind a solid team effort, Crownover pulled out a two-point victory when Brianna Leeds hit the game-winning basket with 20 seconds left.

Brittany Bejar and Ashley Griffin led the Crownover attack with four points apiece, while Leeds, Ariel Brown, Abby Stovall, Alyssa Tackman and Jessica Shindler each had two points.


Crownover seventh-grade C 14, Lake Dallas 10

Kenzi Valdez scored six points and Macey Ragel added four as Crownover improved to 5-0.
