Sub-varsity roundup: Denton posts JV win over Lake Dallas

Keith Cole and Semaj Griggs each scored two touchdowns Thursday to lead Denton JV Purple over Lake Dallas 30-18.

Cole scored on runs of 6 and 3 yards, while Griggs caught a 15-yard TD pass from Brenton Broadbent and an 8-yarder from Edson Vasquez.

Vasquez also kicked a 27-yard field goal, and Keegan Murphy returned a fumble for a 5-yard touchdown for Denton (3-1, 1-0 district).

Denton Gold (2-2, 1-0) also won, 16-0, against Lake Dallas.

The Broncos will host Guyer beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Denton freshman A 31, Lake Dallas 28

Robert Reyes kicked a game-winning field goal to give Denton A a win over Lake Dallas.

Caleb Osuofa scored the Broncos’ (4-0, 1-0) first three touchdowns on runs of 10, 1 and 21 yards. CJ Herrera added a 20-yard rushing score and picked off a pass on defense. Reyes also kicked four extra points.

Denton freshman B 36, Lake Dallas 0

Denton’s quarterbacks threw for three touchdowns as the Broncos (2-2, 1-0) shut out Lake Dallas.

Erik Guerrero (35 yards) and Keaton Brown (6 yards) each caught a scoring pass from Conner Cocciarella, while David Steward was on the receiving end of a 26-yarder from Luke McDougal. Cocciarella also ran for a 1-yard score, and Caleb Word had a 4-yard TD run.

On defense, Caleb Allison had two sacks, Kelby Lewis recovered a fumble, and Josh Crain had an interception.

Denton freshman C 16, Fort Worth Chisolm Trail 14

Cedric McClinton scored on runs of 18 and 57 yards, and Chris Casanova’s tackle for a safety was the difference as Denton (1-3, 1-0) downed Fort Worth Chisolm Trail.

Denton’s freshmen will play at Guyer starting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Ryan JV Blue 34, McKinney 7

Andrew Flores accounted for two early touchdowns to lead Ryan past McKinney.

Flores tossed a 25-yard score to Tre Button and kept the ball for a 1-yard TD run. Flores finished with 159 rushing yards and 57 passing. Austin Carter added touchdown runs of 15 and 4 yards and threw for 80 yards.

Ryan will host Flower Mound Marcus at 7 p.m. Oct. 10.

Ryan freshman Blue 47, McKinney 6

Ryan had two punt returns for touchdowns as the Raiders (3-1) defeated McKinney.

Tyreke Davis had TD runs of 5, 8 and 70 yards. Randy Gray had a 30-yard rushing touchdown and 65-yard punt return for a score. Joe Niu added a 40-yard touchdown on a punt return, and Delano Robinson returned an interception 25 yards to the end zone.

Matthew Pruitt kicked three extra points.

Ryan freshman Red 50, McKinney 0

Brock Marion and Tayon Long combined for more than 200 rushing yards on just six carries as Ryan eased past McKinney.

Marion had 133 yards and two scores on four runs while Long had 93 yards and a touchdown on two attempts. Will Kolbrick and Jimmy Love each threw for a touchdown.

Ryan Red will be at Highland Park at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Ryan Blue has a bye.
