Middle school volleyball: Crownover rallies to ensure 6-0 start

The Crownover Lady Cowboys rallied from a first-set loss to sweep the next two sets and defeat the Harpool Lady Longhorns 17-25, 25-12, 25-9 Thursday night in eighth-grade action and remain unbeaten at 6-0 for the A-team season.

Brooke Slusser’s strong service game in the third set led the way for Crownover, while Jordyn Williams, Ella Bridges and Abby Cox were outstanding in the comeback victory.

Crownover ‘B’ d. Harpool

Outstanding serving from Kayrs Olson and Lauren Adams led the way as Crownover (5-1) rolled to a 25-17, 25-15 sweep of Harpool.

Kate Moala and Sidney Cobb also were instrumental for the Lady Cowboys.

In the C-team match, Harpool defeated Crownover 25-22, 25-17.

McMath ‘A’ d. Calhoun

Peyton Trosper and Campbell Sweeten produced strong service games to lead the McMath Lady Tigers (6-1) to a 25-9, 25-14 victory against the Calhoun Lady Cougars.

McMath ‘B’ d. Calhoun

London Pollard and Karina Johnston dominated for the McMath Lady Tigers in their 25-20, 25-16 triumph against Calhoun.

McMath ‘C’ d. Calhoun

McMath scored a 25-21, 25-13 sweep of Calhoun behind overall play from Jayden Bradley, Alexia Reyes and Emily Cantrell.

Strickland ‘A’ d. Myers

The Strickland Lady Vikings scored a hard-fought 25-23, 25-20 victory against the Myers Lady Titans.

Lauren McCorkle and Sage Lancaster led the defensive effort for Myers, while Lamaya McColor, Brittnie Schneider and Emma Sanchez were standouts on offense.

Myers ‘B’ d. Strickland

The Myers Lady Titans swept Strickland, 26-24, 25-8.

Jayla Jones and Rachel Womack were the offensive leaders for Myers, while Alexis Huggins led the defense.

Strickland ‘C’ d. Myers

The Strickland Lady Vikings swept past Myers 25-13, 25-9, and Alexa Riojas and Tiana Robertson were the standouts for Myers.

Seventh grade

McMath ‘A’ d. Calhoun

The McMath Lady Tigers rode the strong play of Rosie Du, Margaret Nicholson and Abby Folsom to a 25-9, 25-10 win over the Calhoun Lady Cougars.

Du had six aces and one kill, Nicholson added five aces and one kill and Folsom had a team-high five kills as McMath moved to 7-0.

Standouts for the Lady Cougars (1-5) were Alyssa Scruggs and Maggie Delaceda.

McMath ‘B’ d. Calhoun

Powered by the strong defensive efforts of Izzy Redwine and Jennifer Pina and strong offense from Nadia Brown and Kalyn Cardona, McMath knocked off Calhoun 25-15, 25-15.

Leading the way for the Lady Cougars (2-4) were Kaia Love-Wilcox, Helena Coleman, Tamara Esquivel, Marley Mendoza and Karissa Castillo.

McMath ‘C’ d. Calhoun

Miya Portillo had 24 service points to lead the McMath Lady Tigers to a 25-12, 25-14 win over Calhoun.

Angie Rojas-Wilkerson was the top server for Calhoun (0-6) while Danitzy Ramirez was the top passer.

Myers ‘A’ d. Strickland

Vanessa Ogle, Taylie Fenner and Shian Blacksher-Hollis led the way as the Myers Lady Titans scored a 25-15, 25-10 win over the Strickland Lady Vikings.

Strickland ‘B’ d. Myers

Strickland rallied after dropping the first set to defeat Myers 10-25, 25-23, 18-16.

Maya Hurd, Valerie Benge and Berkely Peteet were standouts for the Lady Titans.

Strickland ‘C’ d. Myers

The Strickland Lady Vikings put together a fierce rally to score a 24-26, 25-7, 15-12 win over the Myers Lady Titans, who were led by Alyssia Gonzales and Nichole Rodriguez.

Harpool ‘A’ d. Crownover

The Harpool Lady Longhorns rallied after a first-set loss to defeat Crownover 17-25, 25-16, 25-22.

Maggie Walsh and Carolina Christianson played well for Crownover.

In the B-team match, Crownover defeated Harpool 25-14, 25-20. Harpool won the C-team contest 27-25, 25-12.
