Middle school football roundup: Crownover opens with win over McMath

BJ Phiilips ran for four touchdowns and Chandler Pullam passed for two to lead the Crownover Cowboys to a 46-8 victory over the McMath Tigers on Wednesday night in eighth-grade A-team action.

Phillips had scoring runs of 5, 12, 40 and 38 yards, while Pullam hit Jace Wilson with a 40-yard scoring strike and connected with Jackson Red Foster on a 52-yard scoring play. 

Leading the Cowboys' defense were Grayson Obara and Jaden Powell with interceptions, while Rowan Briggs, Wasay Butt, Braeden Vallejo, Jacob Ambriz, Carson Parham, Leo Gibbs and Chad Brooks played well.

Myers 'A' 14, Rodriguez 0

The Myers Titans used a strong defensive effort to open the season with a shutout victory over the Rodriguez Vipers.

Michael Davis scored on a 5-yard run, and Isaiah Madison added a 1-yard TD run and Jackson Baker was good with the extra point to complete the Titans' scoring.

Lake Dallas 'A' 30, Calhoun 8

Jametrick Modester scored on a 25-yard run and Kelan Minnus had 35 yards rushing on five carries for Calhoun in its loss to Lake Dallas.

Harpool 'A' 30, Strickland 8

Jordan Lyons caught two touchdown passes from CJ Rice and rushed for another score to lead the Harpool Longhorns to a win over the Strickland Vikings.

Lyons caught TD passes of 10 and 28 yards and ran 11 yards for another score, while Lleyton Roth had a 6-yard scoring run and Jose Ochoa added three extra points. Lyons had 88 yards rushing and 38 yards receiving, Eta Tako rushed for 53 yards and Rice had 52 yards rushing and 68 passing yards.

Tate Thompson was a defensive leader for the Longhorns with a interception.

Harpool 'B' 20, Strickland 0

Luke Martini ran for two TDs and Montray Jones ran for one as Harpool knocked off Strickland.

Crownover 'A' 46, McMath 0

Blake Courtney scored three times and Peyton Bowen added two touchdowns as Crownover overwhelmed McMath.

Courtney scored on a 2-yard run and caught a 5-yard pass from Brenden Bradshaw and a 15-yard scoring strike from Charles Hayes. Bowen had scoring runs of 8 and 45 yards, and Ryan Yaites had a 45-yard touchdown run. Ivan Pena added five extra points.

Andrew Coplin, Si Stovall and Sutton Lee were standouts for the Cowboys' defensive unit.

Crownover 'B' 31, McMath 0

Jack Bradley and Broc Bristol each scored twice as the Crownover Cowboys opened the season with a lopsided victory over the McMath Tigers.

Bradley scored on an 80-yard kickoff return and a 50-yard run and finished the evening with 130 yards, while Bristol had two rushing TDs and finished with 90 yards. Tad Tamplen added 70 yards rushing and Ceasar Nava had 50 yards.

Harpool 'A' 24, Strickland 6

Jackson Arnold rushed for 143 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Harpool Longhorns to a victory over the Strickland Vikings.

Arnold scored on runs of 11, 56 and 25 yards and completed five of six passing attempts for 50 yards. Cameron Posada added three extra points to complete the Harpool scoring. Mason Martin, Jackson Moore and Blade Carver were standouts on the Longhorn defense.

Harpool 'B' 28, Strickland 0

Four players scored as the Harpool Longhorns opened with a shutout of Strickland.

Jonah McKinley and Zach Saye scored rushing touchdowns, Garrett Hunt recovered a fumble for a touchdown and Matthew Spivey caught a TD pass from Christian Klein.

Myers 'A' 19, Rodriguez 0

The Myers Titans converted two fumble recoveries into touchdowns as they rolled to victory over the Rodriguez Vipers.

Amarien Mohair returned a fumble 83 yards for a touchdown and a 6-0 lead. Kalib Hicks increased the lead with a 50-yard TD run, and Jordyn Bailey closed out the scoring  when he returned a fumble 95 yards and Joesif Williams ran in the conversion.

Rodriguez's Dylan Smith was singled out for his play on offense, while Jason Smith led the Vipers' defensive effort.

Rodriguez 'B' 14, Myers 0

Jaden McKay scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the Rodriguez Vipers to the first win in school history.

Vincent Cruz and Shawn Durkin provided strong blocking for McKay and quarterback Trenton Pesina.
