Middle school football roundup: Phillips, O'Bara lead Crownover past Strickland

BJ Phillips and Grayson O'Bara scored two touchdowns apiece to help the Crownover eighth-grade "A" team to a 33-6 victory over the Strickland Vikings on Tuesday night.

Phillips scored on runs of 68 and 53 yards, and O'Bara caught TD passes of 23 and 56 yards from Chandler Pullam. Braedon Vallejo returned a fumble 54 yards for a Crownover's other touchdown; Pullham connected with Jace Wilson for the conversion. Wilson also scored two points when he returned a blocked extra point 90 yards.

Jacob Ambriz, Filibus Dimka, Zach Brooks, Rylan Whitworth all blocked well for Crownover, now 6-0, while Carson Parham, Jaden Powell, Rowan Briggs, Jackson Red Foster, Nathan Penny and Zane Royston led the defensive effort.

Crownover 'B' 32, Strickland 6

Dillon Gervais scored two touchdowns and added four extra points as Crownover rolled to a win over Strickland.

Gervais had scoring runs of 22 and 35 yards, Jillian Mendoza scored on a 40 yard run and Keadrin Allen returned an interception 60 yards as Crownover evened its record at 3-3.

Navo 'A' 8, McMath 0

Navo's Jaeden Acker caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Jayson Jones and Gabriel Rodas added the extra point, and that score held up as the Navo Panthers blanked the McMath Tigers.

Navo is now 2-4.

Navo 'B' 18, McMath 6

Cameron Smith scored one touchdown and threw for another as the Navo Panthers improved to 5-0 with a victory over McMath.

Smith hit Casey Sessions with a 29-yard TD pass, and later in the game Smith forced a fumble and recovered it for a TD. Navo's other touchdown came on an 11-yard run by Omani Ozenne.

McMath (3-3) got its TD on a 1-yard run from Baylor Battles. Other standouts for McMath were Reese Montcalm, Rolondo Rangel, Nick Fox, Rodolfo Martinez and Andrew Rosales.

Seventh grade
Navo 'A' 32, McMath 0

Ty Bartlett ran for 135 yards on 12 caries and scored two touchdowns as the Navo Panthers shut out the McMath Tigers.

Bartlett scored on runs of 72 and 5 yards. Wyatt Smith got Navo (2-4) started with a 20-yard TD run. Moments later Smith hit Steven Richardson with a 25-yard scoring pass. Journal Williamson closed the scoring with a 12-yard run, and Marc Ibarra added an extra point.

Landon Brown, Carter Smith, Tristan Strange, Julian Durazo and Jacob Mares were standouts for McMath (0-5).

Crownover 'A' 38, Strickland 0

Peyton Bowen scored two touchdowns, Blake Courtney passed for two and the Crownover defense limited Strickland to no first downs.

Bowen scored on a 15-yard run and caught a 35-yard scoring pass from Courtney. 

Courtney passed 6 yards to Sutton Lee for a TD, Ryan Yaites ran 4 yards for a TD and Isaiah Pride closed out the scoring with a 15-yard run. Kicker Ivan Pena was good on four extra points.

Pierson Adams, Ryan Quintero, Brendan Bradshaw, Caleb Cowen and Bryson Riggs led the defense as Crownover improved to 6-0.

Crownover 'B' 30, Strickland 6

Five players scored for the Crownover Cowboys (6-0) in their victory over the Strickland Vikings (1-5).

Jack Bradley (30-yard run), Cesar Nava (5 run), Jay Codiera (2 run), Brock Bristol (5 run) and Tad Tamplen (2 run) scored touchdowns for the Cowboys. Standouts on defense were Brock Shoopman, Aiden Delgado, Mason Bunn, Grayson Ingram, Josh Walsworth and Hank Nokes.

Harpool 'A' 24, Little Elm 0

Jackson Arnold rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Harpool Longhorns to their shutout victory over Little Elm.

Arnold scored on runs of 26 and 42 yards, Blade Carver had a 10-yard touchdown run and Cameron Posada hit three extra points to secure Harpool's fifth win without a loss.

Jackson Moore led the Longhorn defense with four tackles and two sacks, Garret Hunt had three tackles and one sack, Carver had a sack and Ryder McDaniel had an interception.

Harpool 'B' 16, Little Elm 0

Christian Klein ran for one touchdown and threw for another to lead Harpool to its win over Little Elm.

Klein's TD pass went to Evan Langley, and Jacob Gamboa added two extra points as the Longhorns improved to 4-1.
