Middle school football roundup: Crownover dominates Calhoun to remain unbeaten

Seven players got into the end zone to lead the Crownover eighth-grade "A" team to a 47-0 victory over Calhoun on Tuesday night.

BJ Phillips opened the scoring with a 65-yard run before Chandler Pullam tossed a 23-yard touchdown pass to Jace Wilson. Carson Parham, Jaden Powell and Zane Roysten rounded out the offensive scoring with rushing scores of 2, 28 and 12 yards, respectively.

Jackson Red Foster scored on a 46-yard interception return and Rylan Whitworth recovered a fumble for a touchdown to lead the team's defensive effort.

Crownover remains unbeaten and will take on Harpool on Tuesday.

McMath 'A' 24, Rodriguez 20

Quarterback Kolten Shuckers threw for 309 yards and four touchdowns to lead McMath to a tight win over Rodriguez.

Shuckers connected with Jason Carter on three of his four touchdown throws, as Carter finished with 227 receiving yards and three scores. Behind the dynamic duo of Shuckers and Carter, Nate Newton had 78 total yards, two tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble.

Raudel Morales caught the team's final touchdown on a 12-yard pass from Shuckers.

McMath will host Calhoun on Tuesday.

Crownover 'B' 28, McMath 'B' 0

Josh Billups, Reese Montcalm, Baylor Battles, Travis Coffman and Andrew Rosales stood out for McMath in its loss to Crownover. 

McMath fell to 3-5 on the season. 

No Crownover stats were available.

Seventh grade

Crownover 'A' 37, Calhoun 0

Brad Pruett threw for two touchdowns and Bryson Riggs ran for two to highlight a dominant win for Crownover on Monday.

Si Stovall, Caleb Cowen and Connor Newton caught passes for Crownover while Charles Hayes and Peyton Bowen ran the ball well. Ryan Yaites scored the first touchdown on a 19-yard run.

Jaden Fritsch, Ryan Quintero and Pierson Adam led the way defensively as Crownover didn't allow a single first down while improving to 7-1. 

Crownover will play Harpool on Monday for the district championship, while Calhoun plays McMath.

Crownover 'B' 28, Calhoun 18

Crownover used big plays on special teams to spark a 28-18 win over Calhoun.

Yahir Jimeniz gave the offense more opportunities to score with his onside kicks, while Hank Nokes had a recovery that led to a scoring drive. Timothy Cardona scored on a 55-yard kickoff return for a Crownover touchdown. Offensively, Jack Bradley and Broc Bristol scored on runs of 30 and 15 yards, respectively.

Crownover improved to 8-0.

Harpool 'A' 22, Lake Dallas 0

Led by two Jackson Arnold touchdowns, Harpool shut out Lake Dallas.

Arnold threw a 10-yard pass to Jack Krebs and ran in a 7-yard score, while Blade Carver added a 3-yard touchdown run. Carver also forced a fumble that Cole Ratton recovered, and Josh Lumsden had an interception to help hold Lake Dallas scoreless.

Harpool improved to 8-0 entering the district title showdown.

Harpool 'B' 24, Lake Dallas 13

Harpool scored on touchdown runs from Christian Klein, Elijah Stoker and Anthony Benford to knock off Lake Dallas.

Harpool improved to 7-1 and will play Crownover on Monday for the district championship.

Rodriguez 'A' 28, McMath 0

Despite several big defensive plays, McMath fell to Rodriguez.

McMath's Bryce Ashbaugh had a 53-yard interception return and a fumble recovery, Carter Smith forced a fumble that was recovered by Christian Schumel, and Isaiah Santos blocked a field goal.

But the McMath offense was unable to get anything going as the team fell to 0-8. The team will close out its season Monday against Calhoun.
