Middle school football roundup: Crownover completes perfect season with win over Harpool

BJ Phillips rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns and the Crownover eighth-grade "A" team claimed its district championship with a 40-22 victory over the Harpool Longhorns on Wednesday night.

Crownover finished 9-0 and wrapped up its second consecutive undefeated season and second straight championship. Harpool closed with a 7-2 record.

Crownover quarterback Chandler Pullam threw touchdown passes of 23 yards to Jesse McLaughlin and 10 yards to Jace Wilson, and Red Foster scored on a 62-yard run. Wilson caught a pair of conversion passes from Pullam, and Brynn Langford added one extra point.

Jaden Powell (interception), Rylan Whitworth, Braedon Vallejo and Grayson Obara led the Cowboy defense.

Eta Tako was the leading rusher for the Longhorns and scored once. Quarterback CJ Rice threw a pair of TD passes to Jordan Lyons to complete the Harpool scoring.

Navo 'A' 44, Rodriguez 6

Navo's Jayson Jones ran for two touchdowns and passed for three more as the Panthers wrapped up their season with a 38-point victory over the Rodriguez Vipers.

Jones scored on two runs of 45 yards and threw TD passes to Jaiden Blaylock for 38 yards, Jaeden Ackers for 38 yards and Kelby Trevino for 70 yards. Kaden Trevino scored Navo's final touchdown on a 28-yard run, while Gabriel Rodas had one extra point kick and ran for a one-point conversion. 

D'arco Jackson and Emery Fields each recorded safeties for the Panther defense as Navo finished with a 3-6 record.

McMath 'A' 32, Calhoun 8

Colton Shuckers passed for over 300 yards and two touchdowns to lead the McMath Tigers (3-6) to a lopsided victory over the Calhoun Cougars.

Shuckers and Jason Carter connected on touchdown passes of 16 and 57 yards. Javaan Evans scored on a 98-yard run, Destin White ran 40 yards for a score and Ryan Wilkins had a 20-yard touchdown run.

Carter finished with 83 yards receiving, Evans led all rushers with 141 yards, and Nate Newton had 51 yards rushing and 22 yards receiving. Leading the McMath defense were Ruadel Morales, Tate Gwilliam, Darreon Lewis, Gabriel Taito and Ryan Cooper.

Seventh grade
Crownover 'A' 22, Harpool 14

Crownover's Ryan Yaites scored on a 1-yard run with 30 seconds remaining and Peyton Bowen intercepted a Harpool pass at the goal line as time expired to secure the victory and a district championship.

The Cowboys (8-1) jumped out to a 14-0 lead when Bowen scored on runs of 55 and 2 yards and Ivan Pena added extra points. 

Jadyn Fritsch, Pierson Adam, Caleb Cowen, Si Stovall, Ivan Pena, Bryson Riggs, Ryan Quintero and Isaiah Pride were standouts for the Crownover defense.

Harpool did not submit a game report.

Crownover 'B' 6, Harpool 6

Crownover's Jack Bradley scored on a 30-yard run as the Cowboys and Harpool battled to a tie.

The Cowboys (8-0-1) were led by defense as the unit of Sawyer Meador, Timothy Cardona, Jay Cordiero, Wyatt Storey (interception), Tad Tamplen (interception), Carson Schmitz, Kevin Bochantin, Hudson Hoskins, Hank Nokes, Alex Cedillo and Andy Rivas forced Harpool into five turnovers.

Harpool finished 7-1-1.

Calhoun 'A' 14, McMath 0

Imarion Holbert and Matthew Carter each scored touchdowns as the Calhoun Cougars closed the season with a shutout victory over the McMath Tigers.

Holbert caught a 47-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Rivers, and Carter scored on a 9-yard run in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. Carter, Devin Hearvey and Harrison Teter were Calhoun's leaders in tackles. Justin Jenkins had an interception and Carter had a fumble recovery that led to Calhoun's touchdowns.

Landon Brown led the Tigers (0-9) with 58 yards rushing while Isaiah Santos finished with 25 yards. Leading the McMath defense were Cody Stewart, Logan Stubblefield, Carter Smith and Marquis Nuby.

Navo 'A' 14, Rodriguez 13

Ty Bartlett scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the Navo Panthers to a one-point victory over the Rodriguez Vipers.

Bartlett's first touchdown came on a 41-yard run, and Steven Richardson passed to Josh Jackson for the one-point conversion. Bartlett scored on a 22-yard run, and Richardson and Jackson connected again on the conversion pass. 

Navo finished 3-5.

Rodriguez 'B' 34, Navo 0

Jayden McKay ran for four touchdowns and Alex Jackson scored once to lead the Rodriguez Vipers (6-3) to their shutout victory over the Navo Panthers (3-4).

McKay rushed for 127 yards behind the strong blocking of Vincent Crus and Jordan Lewis. Jackson also was a standout on defense, leading the Vipers in tackles.
