Middle school basketball roundup: McMath uses late rally to defeat Harpool

The McMath eighth-grade "A" team used a fourth-quarter rally to take a 38-36 victory over the Harpool Longhorns on Thursday night.

Trailing 27-25 entering the final quarter, the Tigers outscored Harpool 13-9 to secure their first win of the season.

Ryan Cooper led the way for the Tigers (1-1) with 12 points and Nate Newton added nine.

Harpool jumped out to a 10-point first-quarter lead and maintained it the remainder of the way in a 33-24 win over McMath in the B-team game. Dominic Wilson had seven points and David Johnson five to lead McMath (0-2).

In the C-team game, Harpool held McMath scoreless in the first quarter en route to a 14-10 win. Kolten Schucker led McMath with six points and Drew McLaughlin added four.

Harpool did not submit a game report.


Little Elm boys at Crownover

Little Elm grabbed an early lead over the Crownover "A" team and pulled away for a 53-42 victory.

Jace Wilson led the Cowboys (1-1) with 16 points while Grayson O'Bara scored eight and Davonte King six.

Little Elm was victorious in the B-team game, pulling away for a 38-24 win. Trevor Hunter led Crownover (1-1) with six points while Zane Royston and Jesse McLaughlin had four apiece.

The Cowboys won the C-team game, defeating Little Em 36-13. Dirk Falkenhagen and Macellus Colley shared the scoring lead for Crownover (2-0) with nine apiece.

Crownover girls at Little Elm

A fourth-quarter breakdown ended a Crownover A-team rally and led to a 32-22 Little Elm victory.

Trailing 21-20 going to the final quarter, the Lady Cowboys could manage just two points in the period and fell to 0-2 for the season. Trinity Cox led Crownover with 10 points.

In the B-team contest, Crownover got strong play from Alexandra Gilmore, Madeleine Landstad and Kendal Mitchell and rallied in the fourth quarter for a 33-28 win over Little Elm.

Ah-Young Kim had four points as Crownover dropped the C-team game 37-14.

McMath girls at Harpool

The Harpool Lady Longhorns' "A" team raced out to a 25-8 first-half lead and went on to a 39-16 win over McMath.

Alisa Williams led the way for Harpool (2-0) with 16 points and four rebounds, and Hayden Colson had nine points and four steals. 

Abby Folsom led the Lady Tigers (1-1) with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

The Lady Longhorns outscored McMath 13-2 in the second and third quarters to pull away for a 23-17 win in the B-team game.

Isabella Rohlik scored eight points and Julianna Cutting and Laura Avila had four apiece to lead Harpool (2-0). Ashanti McDade, Allie Stidham and Margaret Nicholson each scored four points for McMath (1-1).

After a scoreless first quarter, the Harpool "C" team rallied for  a 10-6 win over the Lady Tigers.

Ashley Meria had six points and Grace Brown had four to lead the Lady Longhorns (2-0). Kylie Williams, Nika Naderi and Madi Connelly had two points apiece for McMath.

Rodriguez girls at Calhoun

The Calhoun "A" team used a fourth-quarter rally to pull out a 17-15 victory over the Rodriguez Lady Vipers.

Brooklyn Morris led the scoring for the Lady Cougars (1-1) with six while Larissa Rogers and Kaiya Love-Wilcox each had four.

Rodriguez did not submit a game report.

Seventh grade

Little Elm boys at Crownover

The Crownover Cowboys' "A" team jumped out to a 10-point first-quarter lead and gradually pulled away for a 58-37 win over Little Elm.

Peyton Bowan led Crownover with 12 points and Lane Allen finished with 10 as the Cowboys improved to 2-0.

The Cowboys overcame a slow start in the B-team game and rallied from behind for a 30-19 victory over Little Elm. Alex Cedillo led Crownover (2-0) with eight points and Caleb Cowan added five.

In the C-team contest, Hank Nokes scored three points and Peyton Campbell and Kaleb Kaufman had two apiece as Crownover  (2-0) pulled out a 12-10 victory.

Crownover girls at Little Elm

The Crownover Lady Cowboys pulled off a three-game sweep of Little Elm and improved to 2-0 for the A-team season.

Kaylie Morgan scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Hailey Evans added nine points and Kendall Stowers added seven points as the "A" team recorded a 36-28 victory.

Cayelee Clark scored seven points to lead Crownover to a 12-9 win in the B-team game.  Jada George had four points in the Lady Cowboys' 12-8 win in the C-team game.

Harpool boys at McMath

The McMath Tigers' "A" team outscored Harpool 16-4 in the third quarter to break open a tight game and went on to a 36-27 victory.

Nate Newton led the Tigers with 14 points and Chris Feaster had 13 as McMath improved to 1-1.

Harpool rallied from a 14-all tie to take a 19-16 win over McMath in the B-team game. Karntyn Valier and DJ Woodson had four points apiece for the Tigers (0-2).

Harpool jumped out to an early lead over McMath in the C-team game and went on to a 14-10 triumph. Jacob Mares led the Tigers with six points.

Harpool did not submit a game report.

McMath girls at Harpool

The Harpool Lady Longhorns combined a stifling defensive effort with strong offense to cruise to lopsided wins in all three games against McMath.

Madison Lumsden, Raina Akbar and Ashlin Crabtree scored in double figures while the Lady Horns' "A" team held the Lady Tigers scoreless in two quarters to race to a 60-8 victory.

Lumsden led the scoring with 15, Akbar had 13 and Crabtree finished with 10 as Harpool improved to 2-0.  Kendyle Hall had eight points for the Lady Cougars.

In the B-team game, nine players, led by Abby LoBello, scored for Lady Longhorns as they recorded a shutout in a 38-0 win over McMath. LoBello led the 2-0 Lady Horns with 14 points.

Jade Bello scored 10 and Brandy DeLeon, Kylie Freeman and Allie Wilson had four apiece as the Harpool "C" team completed the sweep with a 26-2 triumph.

Calhoun boys at Rodriguez

The Rodriguez Vipers' "A" team raced out to a 10-point first-quarter lead and extended it in a 58-24 win over the Calhoun Cougars.

Imarion Holbert led Calhoun (0-2) with eight points and Jacob Douglas added six.

Maddox Chavez had 11 points and Jacob Rivera had six as Calhoun suffered a 20-19 loss to Rodriguez in the B-team game.

In the C-team game, Eli Davis scored seven and Taylor Garner finished with five as Calhoun defeated Rodriguez 15-4.

Rodriguez did not submit a game report.

The Rodriguez Lady Vipers' "A" team raced out to an 11-point first-quarter lead and rolled to a 36-19 victory over the Calhoun Lady Cougars.

Willow Ingram led the scoring for Calhoun with 12.
