Middle school basketball: McMath uses fast start to overwhelm Strickland

McMath used a overwhelming offensive attack in the first quarter and then turned up the defensive pressure to register a 57-4 victory against Strickland in eighth-grade A-team action Thursday night.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 22-4 first quarter lead and held Strickland scoreless the remainder of the way to improve to 2-1 on the season.

Abby Folsom led McMath with 24 points, while Avery Ruiz had eight and Kanisia Haley finished with six.

In the B-team game, McMath broke open a tight game by outscoring Strickland 14-1 in the second quarter en route to a 36-11 victory. Margaret Nicholson led the Lady Tigers (2-1) with 16 points while Ashanti McDade added eight.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the C-team game and crusied to a 25-5 victory against Strickland. Kylie Williams led the scoring for McMath (1-2) with eight while Nadia Brown and Maddie Geniesse added four each.

Strickland did not submit a game report.

Crownover boys at Lake Dallas

Crownover used a 15-6 scoring run in the second quarter to open up a 10 point lead and then extended it in the second half for a 48-25 A-team victory.

Collin Knapp was the scoring leader for the Cowboys (2-1) with 15, and Jace Wilson finished with 13.

Zane Royston pumped in 12 points and lead the Cowboys to a 40-24 victory against Lake Dallas in the B-team game. Kyve Bolden finished with nine points, and Trevor Hunter had eight as Crownover improved to 2-1.

Crownover held Lake Dallas scoreless for three quarters and rolled to a 20-2 victory in the C-team game. Macellus Colley led the Cowboys (3-0)  with eight points, and Chimka Okere added five.

Myers girls at Harpool

Harpool used a pressing defense and a strong offensive performance to overwhelm Myers 52-4 in A-team action.

Alisa Williams hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 18 points to lead the Lady Horns (4-1), while Hailey Mason had 16 points and six steals.

In the B-team game, Harpool held Myers scoreless for the first three quarter to record a 22-2 victory. Laura Avila led the Harpool (3-0) scoring with six while Rylie Beiling and Kelsey Large had four points each.

Harpool also scored a lopsided victory in the C-team game, defeating Myers 27-2. Ashley Meria led the Lady Horns (3-0) with 10 points, Grace Brown had eight and Rylee Pitillo had four.

Myers did not submit game report.

McMath boys at Strickland

The Strickland A-team used a second half rally to record a 33-29 win against McMath.

Nate Newton led McMath (1-2) with 18 points, and Jason Carter had eight.

The Tigers had to hold off a fourth-quarter rally by Strickland to take a 29-28 victory in the B-team game. David Johnson led McMath (1-2) with 15 points, and Josh Billups had eight.

In the C-team game, McMath outscored  Strickland 11-0 in the second half to take a 15-3 victory. Kolten Schuckers led McMath with six points, and Tate Gwilliam had three.

Strickland did not submit a game report. 

Seventh grade

Myers girls at Harpool

Sophia Placke, Summer Shuster and Katelyn Jones led the way as  the Harpool A-team rolled to a 45-9 victory against Myers.

Placke led all scorers with 13, Shuster had 11 and Jones finished with 10 as Harpool improved to 3-0.

The Lady Longhorns held Myers scoreless for the final three quarter and recorded a 43-2 victory in the B-team game. Abby LoBello led the Lady Longhorns (3-0) with 15 points while Lillian Marker added six and Abigail Holder, Carys Stephenson and Cami Cowerd had four each.

Brandy DeLeon scored eight points to lead Harpool to a 12-9 victory against Myers in the C-team game.

McMath boys at Strickland

The McMath A-team raced out to a 16-0 first quarter lead and pulled away for a 44-15 win against Strickland.

Marquis Nuby pumped in 14 points to lead the Tigers (2-1), while Tristian Strange and Bryce Ashbaugh had eight points each and Noah Rodriguez finished with six.

The Tigers broke open a close game in the second quarter with a 12-0 run to take a 37-8 B-team game win against Strickland. Ryan McClurg led the McMath scoring with 11 points, and Ethan Hodkinson had 10.

McMath rallied from a early deficit to score a 12-10 win on the C-team game as Isaiah Linson led the scoring with four points. Carter Smith, Jacob Mares, Jonathan Weaver and Jaylen Mayberry each had two points.

Strickland did not submit a game report.

Strickland girls at McMath

Maggie Wainscott and Kendyle Hall combined for 32 points as the McMath A-team rolled to a 38-11 victory against Strickland.

Wainscott scored 18 points and Hall added 14 as McMath recorded its first win of the season.

In the B-team game, Strickland built a early lead in the first quarter and pulled away for a 28-9 win. Jordhyn Flower led the scoring for the Lady Tigers with four points.

Strickland held McMath scoreless in the first half of the C-team game and went on for a 16-6 win.

Strickland did not submit a game report.

Crownover boys at Lake Dallas

The Crownover A-team mounted a huge rally that included a 13-2 fourth-quarter run to defeat Lake Dallas 45-36.

The Cowboys trailed 11-4 after the first quarter and 26-21 at halftime before outscoring Lake Dallas 24-10 in the second half. Peyton Bowan led Crownover (3-0) with 18 points, Lane Allen had 10 and Ivan Pena finished with eight.

Crownover outscored Lake Dallas 23-12 in the second half of the B-team contest to take a 37-28 triumph. Jadyn Fritsch paced the scoring for the Cowboys (3-0) with 12 points. Cale Perkins had five and Blaine Bird and Alex Cedillo added four each.

Lake Dallas scored a 21-15 victory in the C-team game. Hank Nokes, Jax Wilson and Wyatt Storey had four points each for Crownover (2-1).
